A little bit about me...

Pleased to meet you! I'm Carmen Heron a final year journalist at the University of Central Lancashire. I love to write articles and present radio bulletins.

I have a passion for finding positive news stories. I always try to bring light to the media in what can seem to be all doom and gloom.

I have Industry standard training in working in the Gallery, presenting radio and tv programs and creating digital content.

I have worked in a few professional newsrooms for digital newspapers and for radio.

School's air ambulance visit after pupils and teachers raise £4,000 cycling 500 miles

Four pupils and six teachers from Oakhill School cycled across England last summer, from Land’s End to Lowestoft, to raise money for the North West Air Ambulance service (NWAA).

The challenge took eight days to complete.

Pupils were invited to visit the NWAA base in Blackpool last week to learn about the work they do.

They were taken on a tour of the helicopter, showed the equipment they carry and the technology they use to navigate the North West, including a view of an 11 minute route back

New support group to discuss the realities of living with long-Covid

In celebration of International Long-Covid Awareness Day on Wednesday, March 15, Brain Health Breakthrough CIC are hosting the discussion “Long-Covid myth busters”, today (Tuesday).

Long-Covid symptoms affect 1.5 million people daily and 380,000 people’s daily activities have been 'limited a lot', according to the ONS.

Symptoms can include post-exertional malaise, meaning any activity or stress can cause a flare up of symptoms, even 24 or more hours after the event.

Shane Mitchell, from Mill Hill, is aiming to raise £2,500 for Breast Cancer Now in memory of his sister Michelle Whiteman who died last year.

The 24-year-old business support officer is taking part in this year’s 26.2 mile TCS London Marathon.

The money will help to fund research and support for those affected by secondary breast cancer.

Event to raise money for people affected by the earthquakes in Syria

Volunteers for UK-based charity, One Nation, will hold a family-themed event to bring the community together.

On February 6, two earthquakes devastated thousands of people in Turkey and Syria.

One month later, more than 52,800 deaths have been confirmed - more than 46,100 in Turkey, and more than 6,700 in Syria.

The fundraiser will see small businesses on market stalls selling items, from discount clothing to resin jewellery, with the money raised going directly to Syria.
